Archbishop Wood received several strong performances from its girls swim team during the Philadelphia Catholic League Swimming Championships on Sunday, but it was not enough to land the Vikings in first place. As it was, Wood placed second during the daylong meet at La Salle University.

Archbishop Ryan won the girls meet with 809 points, followed by the Vikings with 553.

Wood's boys finished seventh among nine teams. La Salle's boys won the meet for the 16th straight season, collecting 961 points to easily outpace St. Joseph's Prep's total of 5501/2.

Notable finishes for Wood's boys included a third-place from Thomas Whelan in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:01.96 and a fourth place from the 200-yard medley relay team of David Keller, Whelan, James Hurley, and Brendon McGhee in a time of 1:46.37.

Wood's girls were sparked by Megen Donovan who won two individual events — the 500 freestyle in 5:13.63 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.82.

Also in the 500 free, Donovan's teammate, Amy Finn, was fourth in 5:39.56. Finn was also fourth in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.17.

Also winning individual events were Jaclyn Smith and Christina Rios. Smith won the 200 freestyle in 1:59.02 and was second in the 100 freestyle in 55.58. Rios won the 100 backstroke in 1:03.48 and was third in the 50 freestyle in 26.38.

Wood's relay teams were particularly strong, earning a first and two seconds.

The 200 freestyle relay team was victorious with Rios, Alyse Davis, Bridget Gannon, and Smith in 1:45.60.

The 200 medley relay team of Rios, Donovan, Finn, and Sharon Racine was second in 1:58.37 and the 400 freestyle relay team of Smith, Finn, Megan Gannon, and Donovan was second in 3:51.44.

Other notables for the Wood girls included a fourth place from Davis in 200 IM in 2:25.80 and a fifth place from Amanda Horlacher in the backstroke in 1:08.25.
