Wood Girls finish third at National Catholic Championships

Hats off also to the Archbishop Wood girls.   For the third year in a row they proved they, too, deserve a place among the strongest programs in the National Catholics' field.   Coming off a second-place finish last year, Wood came in third for the second time in three years.   "The girls swam really, really well," Wood head coach Charlie Stillwell said.   "In fact, many of them lowered their best times, so I'm proud of the way they finished."   The Vikings earned a trio of individual titles, paced by junior Shannon Seckinger's victories in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.   Senior Carol Crouthamel reached the wall first in the 100 breaststroke, and teamed with Seckinger, Mary Skonicki and Jillian Fitzgerald to win the 200 medley relay.   Like the La Salle boys, depth keyed Wood's performance.   "We had somebody place in the top six in every event," Stillwell said.   "That's how we finished third and why we're extremely happy as a team, because that consistency was the difference."
